Frequently asked questions

These are the questions people usually ask before they start TipLadder with their own group.

Who is it for?

Any group. Friends, family, coworkers, a sports club, or the few people you watch the match with every weekend. All it takes is one person who starts it and invites the others.

How much time does it take each week?

About two minutes for the players. One question shows up each week, they answer it on their phone or laptop, and that's it. Whoever organizes it spends about a quarter of an hour at the start putting the questions in. After that the scheduler releases one a week on its own.

Does anything need installing?

No app store needed. TipLadder runs in the browser, and two taps put it on the phone home screen, where it opens like any other app. On a laptop the browser is enough.

Is this gambling or betting?

No. It runs on points. There are no stakes, no payments and no cash prizes. Sports predictions earn points on the shared leaderboard too, nothing else.

What group size is it for?

It works for a handful of friends and for a community of several hundred. The more people play, the more the leaderboard moves, but a small group still has plenty to look at.

How much does it cost?

Nothing, TipLadder is free whatever the size of your team. There is no trial period and no plans, and no card is needed. If paid extras ever come along, we will tell you well in advance.

Who writes the weekly questions?

Whoever organizes the game. They can write their own or pick from ready-made packs with icebreakers, general knowledge, films, seasonal and sports questions. Several months of questions can go in at once, and the scheduler releases one each week.

What kinds of questions are there?

Two kinds. A poll has no right answer and mostly gets people talking, for example about their worst holiday ever. A scored question has a right answer, and getting it right earns points on the leaderboard.

Do we need to be in the same place?

No. Everyone plays on their own phone whenever they have a minute, and nobody has to join a call. The leaderboard is shared though, so there is something to talk about even when half the family lives abroad or half your coworkers work from home.

Which sports can you predict?

Football, darts and Formula 1. You pick one sport when you create your group, and the competitions to follow. In football you predict the final score, in darts the set score, and in Formula 1 the podium, race by race. The sports part is optional, the weekly question works without it.

Can we compete in teams?

Yes. You can create teams, for example two sides of the family or the Monday and the Thursday football crowd, and the leaderboard then shows the teams against each other as well. A team's score is the average of its members' points, so a small team stays in the race against a big one. It is optional, without teams the leaderboard stays as it is.

What does the organizer see?

How many people play, who answers and how often. So you don't have to guess whether it is working. Everyone sees the points on the shared leaderboard.

Where is the data stored?

In Hungary, on our own server. We don't collect it for advertisers, and there are no tracking cookies. There is a plain privacy notice, users can export their data, and they can delete their account whenever they like.

Which languages is it available in?

Hungarian and English. Everyone picks their own language, so it works well for mixed teams.
